Existing owners of DS-4000s installed on multiple computers on a network can seamlessly add the new DS-5000 to that network:

1. The DS-5000 includes DSS Player Release 5 (Version 5.0) that allows the DS-5000 to do everything the DS-4000’s Release 4 software does, plus more.
2. Simply install the new Release 5 software on the PC where the DS-5000 is going, and then the DS-5000 can be configured in conjunction with the DSS Player software, to automatically transfer files to your network, or via FTP or email, just like the DS-4000. The DS-5000 will work in the network just like the DS-4000 does.
3. Any DS-4000 you have will work fine if you connect it to a PC that’s been configured with the DS-5000 and its included DSS Player Pro Release 5 software.
4. As DS-4000s “die off” or get replaced over time, merely upgrade that PC were it died with the new DS-5000 and its included Release 5 software. Anywhere you upgrade, it will be backward compatible with any DS-4000s you have.

FREE UPGRADE/MASS CHANGEOVER (OPTIONAL)

As a DS-4000 owner with Release 4 DSS Player Software already installed, you’re entitled to a free upgrade of your Release 4 software, to Release 5 DSS Player Pro. Merely use the disk that came with your DS-5000 to perform the upgrade. This is optional - you don’t have to do it unless you want to, since the DS-4000 and DS-5000s can live on the same network seamlessly without issue with a mix of Release 4 and Release 5, respectively.  Also if you want (it just means doing the upgrades for each PC) you can upgrade all of your DS-4000 Digital Recorder installations at once to Release 5, then you’re backward and forward compatible with any mix of old and new recorders.
