History of HTH Engineering, Inc.

Since 1998, HTH Engineering, Inc. has created and led the digital transcription and dictation industry, with innovative firsts, and original products. Composed of degreed engineers, software developers, technicians, and sales and marketing staff, HTH Engineering, Inc. develops, manufactures and retails as well as Professional Line dealers for Olympus, Philips, Dragon, Revolabs and other fine products. HTH Engineering, Inc. was originally founded as High Tech Homes in 1986 with an emphasis on creating Smart House products, including whole-house speech recognition, home automation, and drapery blind controllers (click here to see the Home Shopping Channel special interest segment that aired in 1986).

In mid-1990s, the company created its first digital foot-pedal operated PC-based transcription system and software for a medical transcription company. With its success, the United Nations Headquarters in New York City purchased and requested custom versions of this product for its use. HTH Engineering, Inc. was then awarded a contract to develop and convert the Verbatim Reporting section of the United Nations from analog Dictaphone tapes, to an all-new, custom full digital multilanguage PC-based networked recording system. These custom hardware/software PC-based systems have been deployed since 1998, and have recorded the sessions of the General Assembly, Security Council, Socio-Economic Assembly, and Geneva Summits in 6 simultaneous languages plus the guest speaker language.

In 1998, HTH Engineering, Inc. also developed the industry's first PC-based Real Video transcription system for Federal Document Clearing House, well-known in Washington, DC circles and public broadcasting.

In the late 1990s, it became evident that transcriptionists were struggling to make a living, because each manufacturer would have its own "foot pedal" and proprietary software that would only play one audio format. For example, a typical transcriptionist would have a $600 Dictaphone foot pedal and software, and if they went to work for another client who used "BCB" equipment, they'd need to buy another pedal, too.

That's when the Start-Stop UNIVERSAL Transcription system was created, the industry's first, and still only truly universal transcription system. The Start Stop UNIVERSAL Transcription System replaced scores of proprietary foot pedal designs, in one single package, with free lifetime software upgrades. As new formats emerge in the industry, we provide free upgrades so that the Start Stop UNIVERSAL Transcription System never becomes obsolete.

Over the last 10 years, Start-Stop products (including the world's best PC-based DVD Transcriber, the Start-Stop PowerPlay for Windows Media Transcription System) have become the industry's most versatile and popular products for audio and video transcription, with over 100,000 satisfied customers worldwide.
